Despite the forecast, there was no thunder and lightening in the sky this morning but there was plenty on the pitch during a pulsating U8s match at Woking. Walton lost the toss and Woking & Horsell elected to bat.
Walton bowled well showing improving consistency and accuracy. Woking kept the scoreboard moving with each pair running and communicating well before the final pair added 36 in their five overs to set a daunting target of 298 to win. Walton picked up 7 wickets in total with some direct hit run outs from Sam, William and Rory. Zac and Rory both picked up wickets, bowling the batsmen and William added another with an unplayable Yorker. Finally, Josh showed the England players how to field with a stunning diving catch.
Walton’s batting showed a big improvement from the last outing with each pair running and communicating much better to steadily push the score on. In total, Walton lost only 4 wickets during the innings which proved crucial. The first 3 pairs each contributed to a total of 250 after 15 overs leaving Woking & Horsell favourites to take the game. But nobody had factored in josh and William. A display of fearless batting saw 5 boundaries in their first over. Patience followed in the next over as they saw out Woking’s most dangerous bowler who had already claimed 3 wickets. Another big over set up a grandstand finish with Walton needing 7 from the last over. Positive running brought 8 runs and Walton U8s first victory.
A fantastic match played in great spirits. Big thanks to Woking & Horsell for playing their part and making it such a great game.
